Mercedes Trophy ignites the competition for the 4th consecutive year

Three winners will represent Egypt in the MercedesTrophy world final in Germany

Mercedes-Benz Egypt showed its support for its customers, the game of golf, and Egypt’s participation in the World Final in Stuttgart in September by going forward with the tournament. Some say it was a gamble and golfers would be reluctant to drive out to the far reaches of new Cairo to play golf. But the prestige of the tournament, the chance to have one’s name on the handsome trophy, and the prospect of travelling for a week to Stuttgart to play golf and be hosted by Mercedes-Benz was a “once in a lifetime” experience that meant nearly everyone showed up on the day.

Ninety-two golfers were invited to play; 89 golfers teed off at 11:15 to compete in this highly-prized tournament. It is a fitting testimony to both Egypt’s golfers and to Mercedes-Benz Egypt. The day began with the golfers arriving down the long avenue to the course, lined with fluttering Mercedes-Benz flags, dropping their bags at the clubhouse and having a look Mercedes-Benz test drive vehicles. Then it was the players registration, followed by breakfast with its spectacular views of the course, now dotted with The luxurious S-Class, The sporty E-Class Cabriolet and finally the new generation B-Class which is now available at all Mercedes-Benz authorized dealerships.

Most golfers headed for the driving range and the putting green for a bit of practice before the shotgun start. The MercedesTrophy played the katameya Dunes “Lakes course”, which most golfers believe to be the most challenging combination. After the play, the golfers retreated to the players  lounge to relive the triumphs, the putts that dropped and those that didn’t  while watching  impressions of last years tournaments in Stuttgart and the golfers who went to represent Egyptians, along with a chance to play a bit of Wii golf. If you can’t win on the course, there is always a little video golf to lift your spirits.

The prize-giving ceremony  was preceded by some guitar, followed by a welcome note by Sales and Marketing Director, Zakaria Mackary, and a few impressions from the newly-appointed CEO of Mercedes Egypt, Philip Hagenberger who participated himself in this year’s MercedesTrophy competition.

A great day, a tough competition and worthy winners. For those who didn’t quite rise to the occasion there is always next year.
